what is JIU-JITSU?

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a self-defense system that primarily focuses on ground fighting. It is now commonly seen and used as a combat sport in tournaments and professional fighting competitions. Brazilian jiu-jitsu is identified by its concept that a smaller, weaker, less athletic person can defend themselves against a larger, stronger opponent and succeed by using technique and leverage. A variety of techniques can be used on your attacker once the fight has been taken to the ground that are focused on joint-locks, chokes, and ultimately dominating your opponent by controlling them.

The Brazilian jiu-jitsu ranking system begins at white belt. Next in line is Blue, Purple, Brown and then Black Belt. Due to the vast curriculum jiu-jitsu has, each belt also includes a stripe system. Stripes are awarded based on number of classes, consistency, knowledge, and ability to train techniques with partners safely and cooperatively.

Each full belt promotion has minimum class attendance requirements along with a belt promotion fee.
